Testing the hypothesis 2

Opportunity: UF has the opportunity to champion a student artist among its student body to become a public figure.

1. Who: individual that lived in Tallahassee
what: this person lies outside of the boundary because they are not associated with the university of Florida and favor FSU.
why: the don't have a tie to the school so theres no need

2. Who: individual that lived in Panama City
What: The person is out of the boundary because they also favor FSU over UF and don't want to see the school get an individual like that before FSU does.
why: they have no ties to the school and see it as direct competition to their favorite school

3. Who: UF Med student
what: this individual lies inside the boundary but does not find music to be that important at the school
Why: they have no interest in music when it comes to the school and choose to focus on a different aspect of the university rather than the talented student body it has.

4. Who: UF engineering student
What: this individual is inside the boundary but doesn't see the opportunity as something the university would do
Why: he believes the university only champions sports players and would never champion an individual coming from the arts

5. Who: General constructing supervisor
what: this individual has a child that goes to the school but does not see the need for the university to have someone championed from its student body
why: He believes the students should focus on their academics at the university rather than trying to attain notoriety for their creations

Fits in boundary:

3,4, and 5 all fit within the boundary
Need: the need is for the school to champion an artist from its student body
Why: the need exists because we have done it with athletes but there isn't a notable figure from UF that can be looked up to as a role model or anything

Does not fit in boundary:

1 and 2 do not fit within the boundary
Need: The need is not something that appeal to them because they are not associated with the university in a positive way
Alternative explanations: they don't want the school to be more prominent then it already is. They might not like the idea of someone being put on a pedestal as such.

Summary: The individuals in these interviews are outside of the boundary and in. Many have the need and many do not. It really depends on how the individual perceives the school in the first place. Once you find out how they perceive the school, then you can focus on if they have the need or not.

  1. It may be hard to find someone to interview for this opportunity. The only thing I would I can say is try to interview alumni's that you would think are interested in music. For me, I love music and I think t would interesting for the school to use this idea. It could help the already prestigious school with more innovators .

  2. Hey James, I also saw your pitch and I think you have a great idea here. There is not something at the University of Florida like this. You just need to make it more known to people and I bet people will start coming out and promoting it with you. I also have a huge interest in music and art, and I think that many would potentially enjoy this. This post was also very well written and good luck on the posts to come.

  3. Hey what’s up James. I think you have a great idea, and your post was very well laid out. I agree that this need exist, but based on your who, what, and why aspects, I’m not sure how big this need is. I’ll be looking forward to how you dissect this need throughout the coming weeks!
